Did you already break your New Year’s Resolution? Do you think you have to wait until January first, 2017 to try again?
Every day, or any day, has the potential to be the day we act differently. The day we finally stop eating potato chips and bacon because our total cholesterol is 239 mg/dL, border line high risk, and it should really be below 200 mg/dL.
But, the day the world focuses on to be different only comes around every 364 days; that’s right we put a lot of pressure on one day. The first day of the year. January first is the day we start again. January first is the day we start the new diet, stop drinking caffeine, quit saying the f word and the day we read our Bible first thing in the morning, even before we pee.
If you don’t start a new habit on January first, you may think you have to wait another 364 days to start trying again to be different. So if you said the f word or drank coffee on January second, you might be tempted to keep cussing and drinking coffee for the rest of the year and then try to make a new habit the next time January first rolls around again.
If you made a firm decision to do or not to do something starting on January first, and you have already messed up, don’t despair.

You don’t have to wait until next January first to resolve to do or not do something again.
Every day is a new day. Keep working on your new habit. If you did something you didn’t want to do, don’t quit trying. Start again tomorrow.

Today is day two of my new habit to write every day, and clean the seven litter boxes every day.
I did write today, but I haven’t cleaned the litter boxes yet. (I still have three hours and fifteen minutes to clean them.) Maybe, I should just wait until January 1st, 2017 to try again. No, no, no. I will clean them today. But, if I forget one day to clean the seven litter boxes, I will give myself grace and clean them the next day.
